Comfy or chique?

Shoes.
A broad subject for a woman. We have never enough of them. We always want more.
Priority? They must be beautiful. Comfortable? It's a nice to have feature, but definitely not a must.

My feet are very sensitive. Any shoe can cause terrifiic pain and wounds. I still have some scars left from my teenage shoe mistakes.
I must confess, that not that long ago, I still made those mistakes and preferred beauty over comfort...

When I started my current job, at one of the exhibitions, my older colleague gave my this priceless advice: 'Remember, for such events you need to have comfy shoes and underwear'. He used a much more straightforward expression, which I will not quote, but the sense is the same. At that time, I didn't listen, but trust me, I soon learned my lesson.
My first international Congress, Stockholm, Sweden. Nice dress, light make up, modest hair. And these 11cm black stilettos with a black metal tip on the toe (even I don't wear them, they are so gorgeous I can't get rid off them). I must add that I was never used to heels, certainly not to high heels. I started to feel pain when I was getting off the bus at the congress venue. My look was perfect, but it was a real nightmare.
This is not the end of the story, oh no. I was so brilliant to repeat this mistake the very same day at the dinner at the Vasa Museum.
If you have never been to the Vasa Musem - you should. It is a great place to see. When there, have a look at the floor and imagine someone walking there in 11cm stilettos. I spent much time in the restroom, where I could cry over my misery, release my feet from the stiletto torture and where I didn't have to smile. At that time, smile was the last thing I wanted to do :)
I never wore those shoes again...

Now I am older, and wiser (at leat hope so) and comfort is my priority. I am ready to give up on shoes which are gorgeous but uncomfortable.
Fortunetely, I found shoes which are comfortable and beautiful. They are made by the German company Caprice. I can have them on all they long and nothing hurts - neither my feet nor my back (7,5cm heels!). Of course, for the first days I had to wear gel plaster for wound prevention, but this a feature of my feet not a fault of the shoes. The models are maybe not that fancy but as I said, I can choose more classic, basic models which offer comfort. I'd rather have less fancy shoes but a smile on my face than gorgeous shoes and a sad grimace full of pain.
Another company that makes very comfortable shoes is of course Crocs. Whether their shoes are beautiful or not is a matter of taste. Comfortable, they are for sure. I like them because of the colors and the lightness.
Crocs offers also a very basic and simple model of shoes for work: Grace Heel. They passed the ultimate comfortness (it there such a word?) test. Non stop standing for 7 hours and nothing. I felt no pain. My back and feet were fine!

So, remember - comfy shoes and underwear ;-)

Buty.
Temat rzeka dla kobiet. Nigdy nie mamy wystarczającej liczby par. Zawsze chcemy więcej.
Priorytet? Muszę być piękne. Wygodne? To pożądana cecha, ale zdecydowanie nie jest konieczna.

Moje stopy są bardzo delikatne. Każdy but może spowodować u mnie niemiłosierny ból i rany. Wciąż mam pamiątki z czasów nastoletnich w postaci blizn.
No cóż, muszę się przyznać do tego, że nawet nie tak dawno temu popełniałam ten błąd jak przedkładanie urody obuwia nad wygodę...
Gdy zaczęłam pracę na obecnym stanowisku, na jednym z kongresów, znacznie starszy ode mnie kolega udzielił mi bezcennej rady: "Pamiętaj, na takich imprezach najważniejsze są wygodne buty i bielizna." Użył nieco bardziej bezpośrednich słów, ale sens zachowałam. Wtedy nie posłuchałam tej rady, ale wkrótce dostałam nauczkę.
Mój pierwszy kongres międzynarodowy, Sztokholm, Szwecja. Ładna sukienka, delikatny makijaż, skromne upięcie włosów. I te 11cm czarne szpilki z czarnym metalowym okuciem na czubku (mimo że ich nie noszę, nie potrafię się ich pozbyć, tak są piękne). Pikanterii całemu zdarzeniu dodaje fakt, że zupełnie nie byłam przyzwyczajona do wysokich obcasów, a co dopiero do wysokich szpilek. Ból poczułam już wtedy, gdy opuszczałam autokar przy centrum kongresowym. Wyglądałam idealnie, ale w środku przeżywałam koszmar. To jednak nie koniec historii ku przestrodze, o nie. Byłam na tyle genialna, żeby błąd powtórzyć tego samego dnia podczas kolacji w muzeum Vasa.
Jeżeli nigdy nie byliście w muzeum Vasa, polecam. To świetne miejsce do zwiedzenia. Gdy już tam będziecie, przypatrzcie się podłodze i wyobraźcie sobie kogoś, kto stąpa po niej w 11cm szpilkach. Bardzo dużo czasu spędziłam wtedy w łazience, gdzie mogłam sobie ponarzekać na swój los, choć na chwilę uwolnić stopy z obuwiowego narzędzia tortur i nie musiałam się uśmiechać. Wtedy uśmiechanie to była ostatnia rzecz na jaką miałam ochotę :)
Nigdy więcej ich nie założyłam.

Teraz jestem starsza i mądrzejsza (mam nadzieję!) i to wygoda jest dla mnie najważniejsza. Jestem w stanie zrezygnować z kupna butów, które, owszem, są piękne, ale niewygodne.
Na szczęście, znalazłam buty, które są i ładne i wygodne. Produkuje je niemiecka marka Caprice. Mogę je mieć na sobie przez cały dzień i nic mnie nie boli - ani stopy, ani plecy (nawet na 7,5cm obcasie!). Tradycyjnie, w pierwszych dniach musiałam profilaktycznie użyć żelowych plastrów, ale taka to uroda moich stóp, a nie wada butów. Oferowane modele może nie są niezwykle wymyślne ani "czadowe", ale wolę wybrać bardziej klasyczne, stonowane, ale za to wygodne buty. Wolę się uśmiechać w mniej wymyślnych butach niż cierpieć z najpiękniejszych butach świata.
Inną firmą, która robi bardzo wygodne buty, to marka Crocs. Ich uroda to kwestia gustu, ale na pewno można o nich powiedzieć, że są mega wygodne. Ja lubię je ze względu na kolory i lekkość. W swojej ofercie, firma Crocs posiada też bardzo proste buty do biura: Grace Heel. Test wygody zdały na piątkę - 7 godzin stania non stop i nie czułam bólu. Moje plecy i stopy czułe się świetnie!
Także pamiętajcie - wygodne buty i bielizna ;-)
